Challenge
There’s a reading crisis among children in the UK. Fewer than 1 in 3 now say they enjoy reading. This has real consequences for learning, development and mental health. Children’s screen time is dominated by games on their tablets and short-form video, not reading.
Solution
A positive screen-time alternative: a comics-led mobile platform that turns reading into a habit through gamification - streaks, rewards, and progress mechanics layered on top of a catalogue of well-known publishers.
Results
A team of two shipped the MVP in just 2 months, covering AWS infrastructure, backend API, and the mobile app. The platform has since grown through continuous delivery of new user-facing features and internal tooling for the business, and continues to receive content from major publishers including Disney and Beano.
